Our next stop on the way to Fuessen, Germany was Salem. Salem was the place Daniel lived and worked for eight months when he was nineteen years old.
This was the building that was once a small grocery store when Daniel lived in Salem. A new larger one was built a few blocks down the street.
Salem has one bank,
and one restaurant.
Ironically, Salem also had a research building where Daniel worked with a Rocket Scientist.
A few buildings down is now their new building.
This is the house where Daniel stayed in their basement suite. Daniel said it was hardly recognizable because of the restoration and upgrades.
The memories for Daniel were bittersweet. There was no church for him to attend. Hardly any one spoke English here. The street signs to major towns were handmade. He only had a pink female bike to ride to get any where, and there was no internet service at the home he stayed at. Not only that, the company he was working for at the time was on the verge of bankruptcy. Lets just say it was nothing like Daniel or I expected. It must have been difficult for him on many levels, but I am proud he stuck with it until he finished his two university co-op work terms. I know he looked to the Lord and His strength during his stay here. Keeping our thoughts fixed on God, keeps us in perfect peace no matter what circumstances we find ourselves in.
"You will keep in perfect peace
all who trust in You,
all whose thoughts
are fixed on You.!"
Isaiah 16:3 (NIV)
