When I got home and showed my son Tim, he grimaced and said, "The right one's not a vulture. It's some sort of sick, diseased crow!"
I was disappointed and sickened at the same time. Poor crow!
Here are some closer pictures. Viewer discretion is strongly advised.
The most amazing thing about this incident was that the healthy crow stayed by the side of the diseased crow, despite his gruesome appearance! Even when I approached to take some close up pictures of what I believed to be a vulture, the healthy crow never flew far away. And, after I left to continue my walk, I looked back and saw that the healthy crow had flown back to return to the side of the sickly one. They were obviously best friends or mates.
The Bible says that when a man and woman marry, they are to love each other until death separates them. This means that a husband and wife are to love and care for each other even through sickness. But how many times do we hear of a man who abandons his cancer-striken wife, greatly intensifying her pain and suffering? And how many times do we hear of a woman who rejects her husband because he has become an invalid and can no longer work?
We live in a selfish society, but Jesus Christ set a selfless example for us to follow. Just as Jesus loves us and gave Himself up for us, we, as husbands and wives, are to love our spouses in the same way.
"Husbands, love your wives,
just as Christ loved the church
and gave Himself up for her to make her holy,
cleansing her by the washing with water through the Word,
and to present her to Himself as a radiant church,
without stain or wrinkle or any other blemish,
but holy and blameless.
Ephesians 5:25-27 (NIV)
The Bible says that a person is to treat his/her spouse's body as he/she would love, feed, and care for his/her own body.
In this same way, husbands ought to love
their wives as their own bodies.
He who loves his wife loves himself.
After all, no one ever hated their own body,
but they feed and care for their body,
just as Christ does the church —
for we are members of His body."
Ephesians 5:28-30 (NIV)
Love the way Jesus loves! He is "a Friend who sticks closer than a brother." (Proverbs 18:24)
