In Leavenworth, there is a gravel road called Icicle Road which follows along Icicle Creek. The area is popular in the winter for cross-country skiing because of the beauty of the fast flowing creek, surrounding alpine mountains, and evergreen trees. When Brian drove up this beautiful scenic road, he stopped frequently for me to take pictures. As I scanned the landscape for scenes of interest, what stood out the most to me was not (as beautiful as they were) the creek, the mountains, or the trees; it was the assemblage of long, glass-like, tapered icicles hanging from the various rock faces of the mountain sides.
The Scriptures describe ice as being brought into existence on the face of this earth by just a simple breath of God. And even though a breath is gentle and silent, God's breath is anything but those. It is powerful, speaks volumes, and pierces the soul.
"The breath of God produces ice,
and the broad waters become frozen."
Job 37:10 (NIV)
