Pay Attention And Turn Your Ear

"My son, pay attention to what I say;

turn your ear to my words.

Do not let them out of your sight,

keep them within your heart;

for they are life to those who find them

and health to one's whole body.

Above all else, guard your heart,

for everything you do flows from it.

Keep your mouth free of perversity;

keep corrupt talk far from your lips.

Let you eyes look straight ahead;

fix your gaze directly before you.

Give careful thought to the paths for your feet

and be steadfast in all your ways.

Do not turn to the right or the left;

keep your foot from evil."

Proverbs 4:20-27 (NIV)

Such words of wisdom from a godly father to his son! They are the words of God the Father to each of His children on earth.

We are to pay careful attention to what God says in His Word. We are not to let God's Word out of our sight, but keep His Word within our hearts. Why? Because God's Word brings life to all those who read it!

We are also to guard our hearts, because everything we do flows from its contents. We are to keep our mouths from speaking words of perversity and corruptness, and to only speak words of truth, kindness, and benevolence.

We are to stay on the path that God has laid out for us to follow, keeping our eyes straight ahead, fixing our gaze directly on our Heavenly Father's face, and not turning our heads to the right or the left. In this way we will keep ourselves from evil.
