The Whole Earth Has Been Groaning

While Brian and I were in Maui, we twice drove up the long windy road to Haleakala or the East Maui Volcano to view its spectacular beauty.

Haleakala means "House of the Sun" because the Hawaiians tell an ancient story about the demigod Maui who stood on the volcano's summit to lasso the sun as it crossed the sky, slowing down its descent to make the day last longer.

This volcano forms more than 75 percent of the Hawaiian Island.

The tallest peak is 10,023 feet above sea level.

On top of Haleakala, there is an institute of astronomy which is one of the most important observing sites in the world for conducting dedicated astrophysical experiments. (My son Matthew told me all about it before I came here. His degree he recently obtained is in astrophysics.)

Brian and I hiked on numerous trails on Haleakala which led us above the clouds with unforgettable memories.

From the top, we could see the beautiful valley of Maui below.

Haleakala is an example of how the earth has groaned and will continue to groan until our beloved Saviour comes again.

We know that the whole creation has been groaning
as in the pains of childbirth
right up to the present time."
Romans 8:22 (NIV)
