"Peace to this house."
This is one of the Burrowing Owls at the Edmonton Valley Zoo. Burrowing Owls are tiny owls with bright yellow eyes, prominent white eyebrows, and long legs. As their name suggests, they do not nest and roost in trees like other types of owls, but in burrows. Many times Burrowing Owls will use pre-existing underground homes that other small animals have abandoned. The Zoo thoughtfully made homes for these owls using black construction plastic tubing placed underground with one opening above the surface.
In the Bible days, it was customary for a person to say a certain blessing when entering a house. Before the person was to utter any other words, they were to first say, "Peace to this house."
"'When you enter a house,
first say,
"Peace to this house."'"
Luke 10:5 (NIV)
It is interesting that God gave His authority to us to bless homes with His peace, and asked us to do so before entering a house. It is sad that we no longer do this, especially when there is so much strife in homes today.
