Don't Trust in Mortal Men; Let God Be Your God

In a world of evil and horrendous violence, we are not to put our trust in powerful people to protect and save us, because they can not.

"Don't put your trust in princes,
in mortal men,
who cannot save."
Psalm 146:3 (NLT)

The Bible says that if we foolishly trust in man and his power while our hearts have turned away from the Lord, we are cursed. There will be no blessings. There will be no protection.

"This is what the Lord says:
'Cursed is the one who trusts in man,
who depends on flesh for his strength
and whose heart turns away from the Lord.'"
Jeremiah 17:5 (NLT)

However, if we put our trust in God, He is a shield to all who take refuge in Him. We can trust God because His way is perfect and His Word is flawless.

"As for God,
His way is perfect;
the Word of the Lord is flawless.
He is a shield for all who take refuge in Him."
22 Samuel 22:31 (NIV)

Adhering to God's Word is the only way we will have the blessings of God. If we continue to disregard God's Word and put our trust in a person or leader to protect us, we will surely be disappointed. No one can save us but God. No one can be our safeguard but Him. And His flawless Word is the only way for us to know Him; through it He directs us to travel on the right path of life as He upholds us with His victorious right hand.

"Don't be afraid, for I am with you.
Don't be discouraged,
for I am your God.
I will strengthen you and help you.
I will hold you with my victorious right hand."
Isaiah 41:10 (NLT)

When we truly know God we never have to be afraid or discouraged, for when He is our God and we look only to Him, the Almighty is with us. And when God is with us, there is nothing that can stand against us!

"If God is for us,
who can be against us."
Romans 8:31 (NLT)
