Fix Your Thoughts On God, Not The Thoughts Themselves

"Fix your thoughts on what is true,
and honourable, and right, and pure,
and lovely, and admirable.
Think about things that are excellent
and worthy of praise."
Philippines 4:8 (NLT)

God wants us to be cheerful and to have faith in Him even during the bad times. How can we do this? By fixing our thoughts on what is true, honourable, right, pure, lovely, admirable, excellent, and worthy of praise. In other words, we are to fix our thoughts on God, who He is, and what He promises in His Word.

This is different than the philosophy of positive thinking. Positive thinkers believe that a person can obtain everything he/she desires through the power of his/her own mind. They ignore the bad and never deal with troubling issues. This mindset results in dangerous consequences. Many Christians are also misled, often by famous, wealthy preachers who have a multitude of blind followers, into thinking that positive thinking is faith in God. But it is not faith in God. It is faith in one's own power and selfish desires.

Fix your thoughts on God, not on the thoughts themselves!
