We Can Cry Out To You To Save Us, But Will We?

In the Bible, Jehoshaphat was a God-fearing king who ascended to the throne of Judah at age thirty-five, reigning for twenty-five years. He is praised in the Bible for overcoming sexual corruption and destroying the false idols in the land. The land was purged of these sins because Jehoshaphat sent out priests and Levites to educate the people on the Law, the Word of God.

Jehoshaphat was governed by God's Word alone, and he used its authority. During the period of his reign, the people of Judah were reigned by God, not a mere man. Because of this, God tremendously blessed the people, and they enjoyed a long span of peace and prosperity.

Even when the kingdom was faced with an impending attack by three fierce armies, the Moabites, the Ammonites, and the Meunites, this is the response of King Jehoshaphat and the people:

". . . 'Whenever we are faced with any calamity
such as war, plague, or famine,
we can come to stand in your presence
before this Temple
where your name is honoured.
We can cry out to you
to save us,
and you will hear us
and rescue us.'"
2 Chronicles 20:9 (NLT)

If only the rulers of this world would do the same! Many such rulers say they are Christians, but they do not know God or His Word, for the solutions to their unresolved political problems are written therein. Therefore, until they start to honour God's Name in all they say and do, these leaders will continue to fail to bring peace and prosperity to their lands. They need to cry out to the living God and go to His Word for counsel. They need to overcome their pride and fear of man because the only one they should fear is God.
