All Our Needs

When Jesus was tired, hungry, and sad at receiving the news John the Baptist was dead, He not only continued to teach and heal thousands of people, he fed them also. It was late, the people were hungry, and far away from their homes; so with one boy's lunch, consisting of two fish and five barley loaves of bread, over 5,000 people were fed.

"'Bring them here,' he said.
Then he told the people to sit down on the grass.
Jesus took the five loaves and two fish,
looked up toward heaven, and blessed them.
Then, breaking the loaves into pieces,
he gave the bread to the disciples,
who distributed it to the people.
They all ate as much as they wanted, and afterward,
the disciples picked up twelve baskets of leftovers.
About 5,000 men were fed that day,
in addition to all the women and children."
Matthew 14:18-21 (NLT)

Everyone ate as much as they wanted and still there were twelve baskets of leftovers. Only one can imagine just how long it must have taken for twelve men to distribute the food to so many people. Jesus by now must have been exhausted, but He chose not to send the people home until all their needs were met. In His Word, Jesus promises us the same. He will meet all our needs too.

"And this same God who takes care of me
will supply all your needs from His glorious riches,
which have been given to us in Christ Jesus."
Philippians 4:19 (NLT)
