That We May Understand

When we become Christians, the Holy Spirit comes to reside in us to help us understand the teachings of God. Through the enlightening of the Holy Spirit, we learn the truth set forth in God's Word. Every day when I read verses from the Bible, the Holy Spirit opens my eyes to see things I normally would not see, and gives me deep insight to things I normally would not think.

"What we have received is not the spirit of the world,
but the Spirit who is from God,
so that we may understand what God has freely given us."
1 Corinthians 2:12

There are many people today who manipulate the Scriptures to support sin and greed for material wealth. There are also those who use Scripture to try to earn their way to Heaven; they do not acknowledge Jesus as God nor rely on His sacrificial death on the Cross. These people are looking at Scripture through they eyes of this world and their human nature, and not through the eyes of God, the Holy Spirit.

It is very dangerous to try to understand God and His Word through the spirit of this world. It is not by the world's wisdom and knowledge that we will understand and interpret correctly the Word of God.
