Freedom, Strength, And Power

The second day Brian and I were in Cody, Wyoming, we went with another couple to travel 22 miles to McCullough Peaks to view the wild mustangs roaming free out on the open prairies. It was an amazing experience to observe the behaviour of wild horses in their natural habitat!

Horses first came to America with the Spanish in the 1400's.

Some of the Spanish horses were abandoned on the range and they thrived.

Then they were used by American Indians and ranchers.

There are no natural predators to these wild mustangs, so a herd grows to twenty percent each year.

If you look closely at the painted horse above, you will see it has rare blue eyes.

Later, during and after war times or economic struggles, people released horses they were no longer able to care for onto the range. These horses mixed with the herds producing a variety of colours and sizes.

The wild mustangs represent freedom, strength and power, but we must not forget that the real freedom, strength and power comes from the Lord who created them.

"The horse is made ready for the day of battle,
but victory rests with the Lord."
Proverbs 21:31 (NIV)
