Family Day!

Yesterday, three out of the ten provinces in Canada celebrated Family Day: Alberta, Saskatchewan, and Ontario. Family Day is a holiday that is celebrated each year on the third Monday of February to honour families and to stress the importance of families in people's lives.

I think it is a wonderful holiday! On the weekend of Family Day, many people travel to visit family members who live far away. Others attend art galleries, museums, carnivals, or special public events, all of which are usually free on this important day.

I took this picture of my cat, Osha, yesterday, and thought about how much she enjoys being part of (or shall I say spoiled by) our family.

Here are some Bible verses that apply to families.

Husbands:
"Each one of you also must love his wife as he loves himself."
Ephesians 5:33a (NIV)

Wives:
"And the wife must respect her husband."
Ephesians 5:33b (NIV)

Husbands and wives:
"Give honour to marriage,
and remain faithful to one another in marriage."
Hebrews 13:4a (NLT)

Parents:
"Train a child in the way he should go,
and when he is old he will not turn from it."
Proverbs 22:6 (NIV)

Children:
"Children, obey your parents in the Lord,
for this is the right thing to do."
Ephesians 6:1 (ISV)

Even this quick study of the Bible shows the importance that God places on family harmony, respect, honour, and enjoyment.

Family Day! A God-inspired holiday!
