Teach Them To Your Children

The Bible instructs parents to teach their children the Word of God at every opportunity: when their children sit at home with them, when their children walk along the road with them, when they tuck their children into bed at night, and when their children get up in the morning.

"Teach them to your children,
talking about them when you sit at home,
and when you walk along the road,
when you lie down,
 and when you get up."
Deuteronomy 11:19 (NIV)

This is probably the most important verse in the Bible for a parent to know!

When my sons were little, I taught them to read Christian books, to listen to Christian tapes, to watch Christian videos, to sing and play Christian songs, and to pray and have daily devotionals. Everything we did as a family was centered around God's Word. We never had television, listened to secular music, rented ungodly videos, or went to the theatre to watch ungodly films. I took the opportunity when my sons were young to teach them to control what they watched, listened to, and read. I made sure to fill their minds with only the things of God. And now that they are adults, they continue to honour and serve God. The things that attract most people in society repulse them because their minds have been saturated with God's Word, and knowing God's Word has trained their minds to instinctively know right from wrong.

Parents need to take every opportunity to teach their children God's Word, and to not allow secular beliefs and immoral views to infiltrate their children's minds and hearts. It is the parents' responsibility to daily teach their children the truths of God, so that when their children are older, they will be able to recognize the lies and traps of Satan and turn away.
