Escape The Devil's Trap

Just the other day, I excitedly spotted the largest spider I have ever seen on my deck. I had to have a picture taken of it. (If you want to get a closer look, click on the picture. You will actually be able to see the individual hairs on this spider.)

All spiders are predators. They mostly catch their prey by spinning sticky webs to trap them. The Bible says that Satan is like that as well. He sets traps for us and can hold us captive to do whatever he wills. Some of the common traps today are pornography, sexual immorality, drug and alcohol addictions, unforgiveness, and anger.

"Then they will come to their senses and escape from the devil's trap.
For they have been held captive by him to do whatever he wants."
2 Timothy 2:26

Hopefully all those who have been trapped by Satan will soon come to their senses because God has provided a way of escape.

"Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.
Come near to God and and He will come near to you."
James 4:7-8a

If we humbly and earnestly give ourselves to God and come close to Him, God will come close to you. You will then have the strength to resist the devil and his temptations. The devil will flee from you because you are now in the almighty presence of God.

How do we come close to God? Well, first you must have the heart's desire. Secondly, you need to set aside time each day to read God's Word and pray. Thirdly, find a loving and supportive Church that believes the Bible is the true inspired Word of God, and attend regularly. Fourthly, ask God for a Christian friend that you can confide in, and have his/her encouragement and prayer support.

I praise God that there will come a time when God will finally cast Satan into the lake of fire, never to tempt another human soul and prey on them again. In the meantime, we need to submissively give our hearts to God, fervently desiring to stay close to Him.
